The scheme initiates an analysis of existing responsible gambling mechanisms such as self-exclusion, staff training, marketing and other player support tools based on hard data.
Through separate investigations of these sectors the RGC and ROGA hope to enhance the sustainability of the online gaming world. They intend to rise above bare minimum compliance to strengthen player protection.
On this new partnership, RGC CEO Sarah McCarthy said “We are proud to work with ROGA in setting a new benchmark for responsible gambling in the online space.
McCarthy adds: “The new certification programme will build on years of evidence-based work and experience building RG Check as a trusted standard. By working together, we are creating a more transparent, accountable, and player-focused industry.”
ROGA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Shatley, explains the programme comes from a joint belief of a sustainable online gambling market.
She said: “Our members are committed to long-term progress, and with RGC’s support, this programme will serve as a clear signal that the industry is backing that commitment with actions that will allow players to make informed decisions about the platforms they use.”
ROGA, which represents approximately 90% of legal US sports betting companies including bet365, BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, initiated the creation of the project via a Request for Proposal (RFP) for certification development.
Land-based and online gambling already relies on RGC Check accreditation. This will function as the base model for the new certification, delivering verifiable evidence-based procedures and objective judgement.
This reinforces their goal to pair player safety with industry leading operator practises through honesty and constant advancements.
Although this is currently centred around the United States, players in the UK are surely aware that the UKGC is always looking to improve their guidelines. There is potential for this RG Certification to expand into the UK gambling market.
