Tip #1 – Don’t berate other poker players

This might seem like a no-brainer but no one likes a bully. If a player has made a bad move, don’t berate him/her. The last thing this player needs is for some know-it-all to point out his mistakes.

Even if his actions have angered you, it’s not an excuse to be a jackass. Being abusive will not help you get your money back. If anything, it will push him to play better. An online poker table should be a fun and friendly environment. Being rude to other players is bad practice.

Tip #2 – Don’t give player advice

Don’t ever chat about some other online poker player’s hand or give advice on a hand another player is in. Once you start doing this, you’ll start dropping hints about what you have and other players would start to read into your actions.

Do not mistake this for table talk to try to influence a decision.

Tip #3 – No profanities in the online poker chat

This might be obvious but berating or being abusive to other players is never a good thing. Not only will you upset someone but they can choose to quit the table.

You might also push yourself into tilt or vex yourself to the point that you start losing each hand.

Tip #4 – Don’t give away hints of the hand you folded

Let’s put this into perspective. Let’s imagine that you are raising a pre-flop with Ace 5 on the button and another player re-raises you while another player calls and you decide to fold.

If the flop comes down on an Ace 5 5 which would give you a strong hand, don’t talk about it in the chat. Only once a hand has been completed are you able to talk about your poker hand. Doing this before the hand has ended, can influence the way the hand is played out and can lead to an unfair game.

Tip #5 – Don’t stall the poker game

Don’t take a long time to act especially when it comes to basic pre-flop actions. Do take your time for important post-flop decisions, but never take longer than necessary when it comes to basic poker decisions.

Slowing down the poker game can be frustrating for all players involved. If a game gets too slow, players might also leave the game.

Tip #6 – Slow-rolling is bad

If, at some point or another, you think that you have the best possible hand and are thinking of calling your opponent’s bet, make it happen as soon as you’ve made your decision.
