Aldo’s Journey Bonus features

As always, Yggdrasil has built the Aldo’s Journey bonus features in to play along with the storyline. Aldo loves to be on the move, and with every spin he’ll move around the reels to help complete your paylines. The five free spins rounds also feature different locations, which is a cute addition to the adventure. We’ll go through all of Aldo’s Journey’s features now to give you an idea of what to expect.

Wilds

During the base game, a solid gold coin acts as the wild, and will substitute for any standard pay symbol to complete your paylines. However, there’s also the Journey Wild feature, which can come into play on any spin. With every spin, you’ll see Aldo himself move around the reels to a new location. He’ll also stop moving when the reels stop, and can act as wild himself.

Scatter symbol

The compass symbol is the scatter, and landing three or more of these will trigger seven free spins. The grid is split into separate sections, so the location of where the scatter symbols land will determine which of the five free spins rounds you’ll activate.

Free Spins

Aldo’s Journey offers plenty of opportunities to score free spins with no deposit, and this is done with five separate free spins rounds. As per above, the round you trigger will depend on which section of the grid the scatters landed on. The five rounds each contain seven spins, along with these modifiers:

• China: 2x multiplier on every spin, plus Aldo will scatter wilds along the reels
• Italy: Start with a 2x multiplier that increases by 1x each spin
• Mongolia: With each spin, a different symbol and all instances of it will be removed. When just two are left, a multiplier will be added
• Persia: A new sticky wild will appear on the grid on every spin
• Journey: First a 2x multiplier will be applied, then one of the four other free spins rounds will be triggered

During any of the Aldo’s Journey free spins rounds, the Wild Time! feature can also be activated whenever Aldo lands on the centre symbol. He’ll award between three and nine wild symbols, along with a multiplier of between 2x and 4x. During the China, Italy, Mongolia and Persia rounds, the multiplier will remain for all spins. If the feature is activated for the Journey round however, you’ll also receive an additional three spins.

Bonus Game

There is no bonus game in Aldo’s Journey, but the different free spins rounds still keep things interesting.

Aldo’s Journey Jackpot

Yggdrasil did not create Aldo’s Journey as a jackpot slot – and though we think Aldo’s Journey progressive jackpot would have been a great addition, there are still huge wins of up to 4,205x to be found. RTP and Volatility

One of the downsides of Aldo’s Journey is volatility. It’s at a medium level which sometimes can be a good thing, but in this instance it means the big wins take a long time to hit. We found that we mostly landed much smaller wins than the maximum, which killed the excitement a little.

In saying that, Aldo’s Journey’s return to player is fairly generous at 96.5% so we were seeing some kind of return. But unless you have all day to wait for the big prizes to roll in, the medium volatility of Aldo’s Journey outweighs the RTP and you’ll mostly find small and insignificant prizes. And if you’d like a bit more guarantee, hit some slots with highest RTP.
