Honey Rush slot review
Between their branded slots, their classic online slots with a twist, and their unique features, Play’n Go never stops surprising us – and now they’ve brought us something new to get stuck into. Honey Rush may look more like one of those Candy Crush-esque games… but it’s actually a high volatility slot with plenty of thrills.
Aside from the hexagon-formed grid, the main difference between Honey Rush and a traditional slot is the cluster win mechanism, which is used instead of regular paylines. The clusters also play a big part in the features, but we’ll go through everything below in more detail.

Honey Rush bonus features
The cluster wins are a point of difference in this slot, since instead of completing paylines, you’ll be awarded when five or more of the same symbols are connected adjacently. if you land features to help you grow these clusters (explained below), you can potentially fill all 37 hexagons with a cluster, giving you a huge payout in return.
Here’s a look at the slot features available so you can better understand how the game works.
Whenever a winning cluster disappears, you’ll be awarded for the win before seeing the winning symbols disappear from the grid. This will allow for new symbols to drop into place – and if you complete a new winning cluster in the process, you’ll score another prize from the same bet.
The cascading reels can also help to fill up the Rush Meter, which is the levelling up feature that helps to unlock more features.
This meter is seen on the right of the game grid, and continues to fill up as you complete winning clusters. Each win will contribute (including further wins from the cascading reels) and the aim is to fill the meter up to move to the next level. There are four levels in total, and the higher you climb, the better the features become.
- Level 1: Collect 20 symbols
- Level 2: Collect 40 symbols
- Level 3: Collect 80 symbols
- Level 4 (Queen Colony): Collect 160 symbols
Levels one to three will activate the Drone Colony, which can see clusters of seven or more symbols added to the grid, along with sticky wild. Things get real interesting when you get to the fourth level with the Queen Colony, since she can create clusters of up to 37 symbols, covering the entire grid and giving you the maximum win.
During the levels, the Worker Colony can also be randomly triggered on a non-winning spin, giving you clusters of up to 15 symbols.
The honey pot symbol is wild, but you’ll only see this once the Rush Meter has been activated. Wilds are sticky in this slot, and will appear on the second ring of symbols from the outside, moving to a different position with each cascade. If you complete a cluster with a wild, you’ll also be awarded a multiplier of up to 3x your prize.
There isn’t a free spins round in Honey Rush, but since the cascading reels already allow for extra chances to win, you won’t miss the feature.
Honey Rush jackpot
Play’n Go didn’t include Honey Rush into the jackpot network, but you will have the chance to win maximum prizes of up to 9,000x your stake.
RTP and volatility
If you love a high volatility slot, then definitely check out Honey Rush, as it offers the maximum level of variance that Play’n Go provides. When playing the slot ourselves, we found fewer smaller wins would occur, but once you start working on the Rush Meter, the wins can really come in big.
The return to player of 96.5% is also on the higher side of average, so with a bit of luck, you could see a few nice big wins come in.
Honey Rush on mobile
As we mentioned earlier, the style of the game has a bit of a Candy Crush feel to it, making it absolutely perfect for mobile play. Of course, the game is offered across all platforms, so you’ll be able to play as you choose.
