Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx slot review

You may remember Jungle Jim from 2016 in Microgaming’s Jungle Jim El Dorado. Inspired by NetEnt’s hugely successful Gonzo’s Quest, Jungle Jim is an equally likeable character searching for lost treasures. And now he’s strayed far from the jungle and into Egyptian territory in search of new adventures and new prizes.

This new online slots release, in collaboration with Stormcraft Studios, sees everything take a step up from the original. The game is higher in volatility, it’s got more paylines and better features. While the graphics may not be quite as stunning as the original slot, the gameplay more than makes up for it. Read our review below to learn more about Jim’s latest journey.

Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx bonus features

If you love a feature-packed slot, Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx will be right up your alley. We really enjoyed the unlockable row and the multiplier levels, since it’s here you’ll have the potential to bring in the maximum payouts.

Rolling Reels

Much like Jungle Jim’s original slot, this game uses the Rolling Reels mechanism, which is basically another name for cascading reels. With each win you hit, you’ll see the winning symbols disappear to make way for new symbols and a potential new win without having placed another bet. The more this happens consecutively, the higher the multiplier level will grow to increase your prizes further.

The levels work as follows:

  • Default level: Played on the base grid with 35 paylines
  • Level 1: 2x multiplier
  • Level 2: 3x multiplier
  • Level 3: Reel extends to include a fifth row and 50 paylines with a 4x multiplier
  • Level 4: 5x multiplier
  • Level 5: 10x multiplier

To work your way up the levels, you’ll need to find consecutive wins – otherwise, you’ll drop back down to the default level. However, once you’ve passed the third level, if you land a non-winning spin you’ll get one second chance to respin and potentially keep your status.

Free spins

12 free spins can be unlocked by finding three or more scatter symbols across the reels. During this round, you’ll automatically see the extra row appear to allow for the 50 paylines. The Rolling Reels also come into effect during free spins, and this time the multiplier levels have been enhanced:

  • Default level: 2x multiplier
  • Level 1: 3x multiplier
  • Level 2: 4x multiplier
  • Level 3: 8x multiplier
  • Level 4: 12x multiplier
  • Level 5: 20x multiplier

Additionally, watch out for the sphinx symbol appearing on the center reel, since if you collect six of these you’ll be awarded an extra respin.

Win Booster feature

You can toggle this feature on and off yourself, and it will increase your chances of hitting the free spins round by adding an extra scatter symbol to the reels. It will cost extra per spin however, so make sure not to use it by accident.

Wilds

The game logo is wild and can substitute for any regular symbol to help complete your paylines.

Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx jackpot

This isn’t a jackpot slot, but there are still plenty of big prizes to reel in. Particularly if you hit the highest multiplier level in the free spins round, where any wins will be multiplied by 20x.

RTP and volatility

In comparison to the original slot, Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx is higher in both volatility and return to player, with an average return of 96.10% to 96.30%. The higher volatility means there are some huge prizes to draw in, but they may not hit quite as often so you may need to spin this slot for a while before seeing any action.

Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx on mobile

Just like the 2016 slot release, Jungle Jim and the Lost Spinx plays great on mobile devices, so you can enjoy this slot across a range of platforms.
